12 Trash Bags, a Rocking Horse, a Wicker Chest, and Multiple Bins Later

Like most people in this world, I place sentimental value on the stuff of life.  I try not to, but it is hard not to invoke a memory or a remembrance of someone in a certain trinket, book, or item lying around the house.  I have a keen sense of who gave me what and sometimes can even remember what occasion.  This, sadly, makes it hard to let go of things.  And yes, letting go (of whatever) is a goal of mine for this new year.

So instead of working on a variety of other necessary tasks yesterday, my mom and I cleaned out a LOT of stuff in both her room and our spare room.

And by a LOT, I'm singing to the tune of 9 bags of clothing in total (though some of that was from some previous cleaning), 3 bags of trash, two boxes of books to donate to the library, an old rocking horse to be disposed of, and a wicker chest to be disposed of as well.

Whew-I'm tired just thinking about all that we did.  We decided that stuff can't hold us back.  If we don't love it, need it, or use it regularly, it goes.

Some stuff gets a new home (library, my house at school, church) or it is old and gross and unnecessary for anyone's life and thus goes to the trash.

Liberating-you bet!

Letting go of stuff needs to be something I focus on throughout this year.  Because let's be real-how much stuff do we really need?!

  2. So liberating! My mom let me borrow her shredder a few weeks ago - it's been exhilarating!
